Privacy Policy

Plain English. No jargon. Here is what CheapFills does with your data — which is very little.

1. Who we are

CheapFills is a service of Cactara Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 16869473), registered office 15 Parsonage Gardens, Marple, SK6 7NB. Cactara Ltd is the "Data Controller" for any personal information handled through this site.

2. The short version

CheapFills has no accounts, no sign-up and no marketing. We don't build a profile of you, we don't sell anything, and we don't track you around the internet. To find fuel near you we need to know roughly where "near you" is — and that's essentially the whole story.

3. What we collect

• Your location — only if you ask for it. If you tap "Use location", your browser asks your permission and sends your location coordinates to us so we can find nearby stations. We use them only to answer that one search. We do not store them and they are not linked to you.
• A postcode, if you type one. We convert it to coordinates to run the search, and keep a cache of postcode-to-coordinate results as reference data so the site is faster and makes fewer external requests. That cache holds postcodes and coordinates only — it is not stored with IP addresses, search histories, or anything else identifying the person who entered them.
• Your IP address. Like any website, our server logs the IP addresses that connect to it. We use this to keep the service available and to stop one visitor overwhelming it with automated requests. We don't use it to identify you.
• Privacy-preserving usage statistics. We process limited request information to produce aggregate site statistics like page views, so we know whether the site is useful. See section 6.

4. What we don't collect

No name, no email address, no phone number, no payment details, no account. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is nothing for us to hold.

5. Why we're allowed to do this

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — running a free public tool and keeping it available and secure. Location access additionally relies on your consent, given through your browser's permission prompt. You can withdraw it at any time in your browser settings, or simply type a postcode instead.

6. Cookies and analytics

CheapFills uses no cookies and no tracking of any kind — no advertising trackers, no analytics identifiers, nothing that follows you. That's why you aren't being asked to accept a cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to. Your browser may cache the app's own files (so it loads faster and can work offline, like installing it to your home screen) — that's functional storage of our code, not personal data, and involves no tracking.

We run our own privacy-preserving analytics on our own server; nothing is shared with a third-party analytics company. It uses no cookies and does not retain your IP address in the analytics data. To count visitors without identifying anyone, our server turns your IP address and browser into a one-way scrambled code that changes every day and can't be reversed — so we can't recognise you tomorrow, or tie activity back to you. Beyond that we keep only aggregate counts: page views, rough device type (mobile or desktop), and which site sent you.

7. Who else is involved

• UK Government Fuel Finder — the source of the pump prices we display. We fetch prices from them; we send them nothing about you.
• postcodes.io — converts a postcode into coordinates. Only the postcode is sent, and only when you type one.
• Vultr — our hosting provider; the server the site runs on is located in the UK.
• Cloudflare — protects and accelerates CheapFills, and therefore processes connection information including your IP address when delivering the site to you.

Map data and map tiles are hosted by us, so browsing the map doesn't hand your activity to a mapping company.

8. How long we keep things

• Searches: not stored at all. Once we've answered, it's gone.
• Server logs: kept for up to 14 days for security and troubleshooting, then automatically deleted.
• Postcode cache: retained as reference data, held separately from any person (see above).
• Analytics: aggregate counts only — nothing that identifies anyone.

9. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, your rights under UK GDPR include access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection to the use of your personal data. Because we rely on legitimate interests for some processing, you have the right to object to that processing. You can also withdraw permission for location access at any time through your browser settings.

Because CheapFills has no accounts and keeps very little identifiable information, there will often be nothing for us to retrieve or erase — but if you believe we hold information about you, email [email protected] and we'll look into it.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

10. Children

CheapFills is a general-audience tool for drivers and isn't aimed at children.

11. Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the homepage.
